Wicked Good Cupcakes makes and ships cupcakes in jars, and has seen growth any startup would envy. The mother and daughter founders began posting pictures of their cupcake creations online. When orders required shipping, the duo devised a cupcake in a jar. According to Wicked Good’s website, filling jars with fresh baked layers of cake, frosting and filling, they were able to create a product that would stay fresh up to 10 days without refrigeration that could be easily shipped. In 2011, they opened a store in Cohasset.
An appearance on ABC’s Shark Tank gave them a $75,000 investment that expanded the company’s operations from a mom-and-pop outfit to a national brand. Wicked Good made over $250,000 the week following that appearance! The bakers had hoped for $350,000 revenue in 2013; they made $2 million, and expect $3 million this year.
The company now has 15 full-time employees. Wicked Good Cupcakes does most of its sales online, and it added a store in Boston and a commercial kitchen outside Philadelphia. And, the “shark” who invested in the cupcakes in a jar claims it’s the best investment he ever made!
